About

Who we are

St. Peter's Episcopal Church is a thriving community called to be a beacon of God's love on Skidaway Island. We are part of The Episcopal Church, embracing the richness of Catholic tradition, the insights of the Reformation, and the freedom to reason and grow in faith.

Our core beliefs center on the Incarnation—God with us in Jesus Christ—and the transformative power of the Resurrection. Our worship follows The Book of Common Prayer, 1979, celebrates the sacraments, and believes that all people are beloved children of God, created in the divine image.

Our worship is rooted in Scripture, shaped by tradition, informed by reason, and always open to where the Spirit leads. Our faith celebrates diversity and honors the dignity of every human being. We believe in “both/and” rather than “either/or”: ancient and modern, traditional and progressive, contemplative and active.

Our History

Starting an Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island

A small group gathered in 1989 seeking to build an Episcopal Mission on Skidaway Island. The eventual purchase and building on 5.3 acres on West Ridge Road allowed their vision to become a reality. The addition of the Schantz pipe organ in 2003 enlivened our worship. Any given Sunday, you can hear the music soar within the gothic arches of the church.

For over 30 years, St. Peter's has been an intergenerational community of worship and service,  providing a home for growth, learning, and community for those seeking to love like Jesus.

Clergy & Staff

  • The Rt. Rev. Frank S. Logue began his ministry as the 11th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia on May 30, 2020. At that time he had already served two decades in the Diocese as first a church planter and then as the assistant to the previous bishop.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, where he lived for 6 years, Frank Logue grew up in Marietta, Georgia. A 1984 graduate of Georgia Southern University, he worked as a photographer for two small daily newspapers in Georgia— the Warner Robins Daily Sun and the Rome News-Tribune. Frank married Victoria Steele in 1985. The Logues hiked the entire 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail in a single six-month long hike in 1988. Three years later, after he worked as an Art Director for a non-profit, Frank and Victoria went full-time as freelance writer-photographers, writing books, and magazine articles. Their daughter, Mary Griffin Logue, was born in 1991.

  • St. Peter's Rector, The Rev. Kelly Steele is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and a highest honors graduate of Duquesne University (2012) where she majored in Theology and minored in Women’s Studies and Music. She went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree (summa cum laude) from Duke University Divinity School in 2015 with a certificate in Anglican Studies. She fell in love with the Episcopal Church at St. Joseph’s, Durham, where professors, students and panhandlers prayed the Daily Office and ate together on weekdays. She came to the Diocese of Georgia in 2014 and worked for St. Michael’s Episcopal Church as a curate and served as Missioner for Columba House. In 2016 she founded Epiphany, an experimental community seeking to serve Savannah newcomers and young creatives. She is married to the Rev. Guillermo Arboleda, the priest-in-charge of St. Matthew’s Savannah. Together, they play “keep away” with their Border Collie, Reina and go on culinary adventures. Kelly loves to roller skate, jet ski, kayak and think out loud.

  • St. Peter's Associate Priest, The Rev. David Wantland is originally from Dallas, Texas. David headed east to study at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he received a B.A. in French Literature. Those studies took him to some unlikely places, from working in the European Parliament in Brussels to interning at an eco-village microfinance fund in Dakar, Senegal. Along the way, David became an Episcopalian and received a call to ministry (on a rooftop in the middle of Dakar. Go figure). David received his Master of Divinity from Duke University Divinity School and completed a Diploma in Anglican Studies at The Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. Prior to joining St. Peter’s, David served as Associate Rector at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas. When not at church, David can be found getting lost on a run, convincing someone to let him garden with them, hosting a dinner with his husband, Colby, or finding a climbing wall to fall off. And he’s always looking for an excuse to speak French!

  • St. Peter's Deacon, The Rev. Cathy Henderson was ordained a deacon in the Diocese of Georgia in 2012. As a young adult, she found the Episcopal church in a small parish in Virginia Beach and counts this experience as one of the key turning points of her life. The baptism covenant “grabbed her”- especially the parts about striving for justice and peace among all people and respecting the dignity of every human being. They seemed such effective ways to love Jesus and her neighbor and to resist evil. Cathy graduated from Emory University in 1971 with a degree in mathematics and worked in the computer industry for over 30 years. She then returned to school to earn a master’s degree and become a clinical social worker. Becoming a therapist had been a life-long dream for Cathy. She did an independent study program on the intersection of therapy and spirituality while in school and soon entered the discernment process for the deaconate. Cathy has worked as a medical social worker, treated inmates in prison, and worked in the military mental health system and in the private mental health sector. She comes to St. Peter’s with a variety of experiences in ministry including having developed a resource booklet for seniors in Liberty County, working with refugees, working with the homeless, and supporting parishes in their local ministries such as assisting women’s shelters, organizing angel trees, supporting special programs to support traumatized children, helping with homeless ministries, etc. Cathy lives on the southside with her two rescue puppies. She enjoys reading, writing, learning to play the piano, and outdoor activities. She makes frequent trips to St. Augustine to visit her son, daughter-in-law, and horse-loving granddaughter and to Atlanta to visit her 98-year-old mother.
