Serve
Ideas to give back to the community
SundayS
It takes teamwork to make Sunday worship happen for everyone.
These ministries are probably the easiest way for busy people to serve. Except for Choir, most of these have a rota system where you sign up for the weekends you can help. We are always taking new names for:
Greeters (all ages welcome)
Ushers (all ages welcome)
Choir
Lectors (Readers) & Intercessors (Prayers of the People) (all ages welcome)
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (serving at the altar)
Acolytes (Crucifer, Torch Bearers, Gospel-bearers; all ages welcome)
Altar Guild (setting the altar for Sundays)
Flower Guild & Flower Deliveries to homebound parishioners (all ages welcome)
Media Booth (livestream and audio support)
Little Church (kids’ formation during worship)
Where to start
OUtreach
Take some time to get connected and get to know the parish:
Small Groups (mixed, women’s, men’s, young adults’, parents’)
Newcomers’ Meetings (first Sunday of the month after 10:15 AM service)
These ministries are best for shorter term commitments during the school year (Sept - May) and are a bit more flexible:
Lent-A-Hand (a six-week springtime service opportunity to serve our community)
Sunday Service Opportunities (below)
Our annual charitable boutique and plant sale in February called The Market at 3 West Ridge, which raises money for local nonprofits serving children and women (read more below under “Volunteer”)
Bigger Commitments
To serve more in the community, consider reaching out and serving one of our partners in mission (below). Or, volunteer for Lent-A-Hand for a six-week stint of learning about and serving our nearby community partners.
Leadership
For those who have been here a while and wish to guide the mission and ministry of the parish in tandem with fellow members and staff. These ministries are less flexible with scheduling because we rely on these to keep the parish running. But these still have a pre-set calendar for planning ahead and commitments:
Finance Committee
Endowment Committee
Stewardship Committee
Human Resources Committee (meets as needed)
Vestry (governing board, focusing on mission, legal & finance)
For those who are really looking to match their skills and time with more in-depth ministry opportunities in the parish, please consider the following. We rely on each other to keep the church running and the community healthy. These ministries can be tailored to individual schedules, usually with a pre-set calendar:
Join the Green Team or Prayer Guild
Write a Lenten Devotional (in January)
Serve on the newcomers’ committee (Invite Welcome Connect Committee)
Help out in the church library or at the office front desk
Help our Buildings & Grounds Committee keep up the maintenance of the campus
Coordinate catering and setup/teardown for Receptions
